future

Spoke to Marcus last week, we dicussed howto get our digital information onto an RFID tag. We have sent him all our resources and we will discuss what we are going to put on the tags.

The Chamber of Commerce was very impressed with our progess presentation and liked the idea that these new resources can reach our long distance learners at out in Katherine and Alice Springs. Using the technology we have been introduced to we are going to trail which ones would be most effect for long distance learner.

We are looking at virtal classrooms like Elluinate and online pages such as protopages where students can access resources. This is something we would like to prepare for next years students.

Elearning Showcase

Last friday we presented at the E-learning Showcase. Rea and Myself got up and shared our ideas about how we can improve the training department at the Chamber of Comemrce by implementing some of the e & m Learning resources we have discovered so far on our LearnScope journey.
We spoke about our experiences with devices such as wikis, blogs, RFID tags, eportfilios, protopaages etc. We dazzaled everyone with the amount of ideas we had for implementing this in our training environment and how they will benifit not only the Chamber but our students too.
We are very excited as management staff from the Chamber heard about our wonderful ideas and are keen at trailling a few resources to reach our long distance learners.
We will be trailling a learning table in the weeks to come and getting together a complete online resources for our students.

me-portfolio!!!

Hi All,

The Chamber wanted to create a e-portfolio, which known as a electronic portfolio or digital portfolio it is a collection of electronic evidence assembled and managed by a user, usually on the Web.

i decided to experiment first with a Portfolio on myself, i have set it up as a resume' and have added pdf files, pictures and even created a slide show on there. i signed up for the free site e-port (below is a link to my page):

https://www.myeport.com/published/c/ha/chamber/home/1/

the username: chamber
password: commerce

This is a very simplistic verson of a E-portfolio, i would like to eventually apply this knowledge to creat a portfolio for students RPL for TAA. This E-portfolio demonstrates the user's abilities and is a platform for self-expression. And a advantage is if they are online, they can be maintained dynamically over time.

Podcast - customer service

Today Rea and myself did a podcast on customer service, we presented it in the form of a radio conversation. We used our radio identities Esme' and Rockie!!!

We will be putting it on a ipod, and Collette will be trailling it with her Vet in Schools students on Wednesday. We think it will be a useful tool in delivery units especially to the 'y generation'.

I am keen to hear what they think, as this will make learning more flexible.

Comic Story Boards

We've been corresponding with Marcus Ragus in Tasmania over the last couple of days and he's been assisting us creating story boards. He referred us to a cool site called wittycomics.com and we've created a few story boards on customer service. Below are some links. We want to put these on to RFID tags and trial them on our VET in Schools students.

M-learning with Marcus Ragus

The LearnScope team of the Chamber of Commerce NT has sourced an alliance with one of the most renowned m-learning guru's of Australia - Marcus Ragus from TAFE Tasmania.

Over the last month we have been e-corresponding with Marcus to implement an innovative idea using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Device) tags in the training environment.

The team have begun to confirm ideas with Marcus and Daniel (IT Technician) using live Elluminate sessions and will now be building a story board together using moodle (EdNA). Once our resources are built Daniel will be forwarding a Smart-Table for us to trail with our VET in schools students.

This could be an e-learning breakthrough for the Darwin community. How exciting!!

Blogs, Wikis, Flickr & Protopage

Today we are at the Australian Technical College for another workshop! I have created, for the first time, my own wikispace, flickr account, del.icio.us and a protopage!!!!!!

Our workshop is being facilitated by Robyn Jay from TAFE NSW in Sydney.

We have discussed among ourselves how we could use some of these resources in our work at the Chamber. Our main idea was to create a common protopage for our current TAA students and this page could include:

+ A calendar with all important upcoming dates
+ Bokmarks for links to websites such as EdNA, NTIS and the Chamber NT website
+ A direct link to the current Chamber TAA timetable
+ Podcasts from a variety of workshops

Tomorrow morning we will be learning about podcasting - something that we've been waiting to learn since the beginning of our project.

To view my flickr page, use the link below:

protopages, wikispaces, flickr....... etc

Today we went to a workshop at the Technical College it was run by Robyn Jay, it was fabulous we had a lot of hands on activities, in the areas listed below:

- Wikispaces

- bloggers (in more detail)

- flicker

- protopage

Protopage has been my favourite so far, it has definite potential to be a learning tool for our TAA students. It has functions such as calendars, bookmarks, section to put podcasting and somewhere that we could post updates for events happening in the training sector. We would like to start trialling it with our current students. Below is the link to the practice page that we did in the workshop:

Tomorrow we will be exploring pod casting in detail, i can't wait!!!!

Designing e-learning Professional Development Workshop

On the 23rd and 24th July Danielle, Chelsea and I attended a workshop on e-learning at the Australian Technical College. The workshop was facilitated by Clint Smith from TAFE Victoria.

Our main points of focus for the two days were Digital Photo Stories, navigation of the Australian Flexible Learning Framework’s ‘Designing e-learning’ website and participation in an Elluminate ‘virtual classroom’ session.

We created our own photostory using images found on Google and our own voices recorded over the top. We used background music to enhance the vibe of the presentation.

M-learning Guru Marcus Ragus paid us a visit in here at the Chamber on the 5 July!
Armed with all his gadgets and new flash technology, he showed a varity of ways these tools could be used in a training environment:

- it could record attendance
- could help with admin processes, such as recording when an assessment was received, who it was written by and which assessment task it is.

The options are endless!!!

We looked at PDA's, GPS's, and RFID tags, Marcus has sound knowledge in this area and will prove to bea vaulable resource for our project.

Monday, July 9, 2007

On Tursday 5th July we were lucky enough to have m-learning guru Marcus Ragus show us various m-learning resources and some of the technology we may be able to trial for our Learnscope Project. Marcus showed us a GPS program on his PDA and we were able to locate the position of satellites above the Chamber here in Darwin.
Other areas of interest that we were able to discuss with Marcus included the use of RFID tags (smart tags), ultra mobile PCs and barcoding. We are currently writing a report for our managers on the feasability of using these m-learning resources in our RTO environment.

M Learning

I attended a coarse yesterday that was about mobile learning. Danielle, Rea, Collette and myself attended this workshop.

Being my first coarse since becoming part of the team in the Chamber, I didn't have a clue what the guy was talking about! However, I lost interest in the discussion when he began talking about PowerPoint Presentations and Photoshop.

The afternoon session with Marcus was much more interesting though because I had more idea about what we were talking about.

I enjoyed the coarse overall. :)

e Portfolios

I recently began my research into the area of eportfolios to find some info as to what an eportfolio actually was. I've found a number of different definitions and discovered various ways of using eportfolios.

After presenting my research to my team we decided we would create our own eportfolio. Our eportfolio will be created as a sample compilation of evidence of electronic activities to show what we have learned about Learnscope. As the example eportfolio is currently under construction I will report back with a link ASAP.

For more info on eportfolios check out the following website:

Next Steps

We had a meeting last Friday 18 May, to discuss the progress of our project. Each member was given a resposibility to have completed before the meeting. Now that we have the initial data collected we can plan the next steps .......

Collette will be running an EdNA workshop for the benifit of the group to teach us how to post comments, change the back and to make the site overall appealing to our students.

Yva is collecting more information about Ared and present this to us at the next meeting.

Rea will be looking into creating an e-portfilo and then generating one for Yva's Certificate IV in Business work.

I will be looking into creating a pod cast, and if it is successful will try and relate it to our RTO.

So we will be very busy over the next few weeks with researching and playing around with all our findings. Keep an eye out becuase our blog will become very busy.

If anyone knows of any good links or has any vauable information about Ared, Edna, e-portfilo, or pod casting, feel free to let us know the more information we get the better!!!

3 M's

Morning Everyone!

Yeterday i went over and Spoke to Melanie Brenton, about bring Marcus Ragus who is a M-learning "GURU" up to Darwin. Its all very exciting!!!! He is making his way here at the beginning of July, which isn't that far away.

We are organising a one on one workhsop with Marcus, while he is here to discuss RFID tags, mobile phones and PDA's and how to program and utilise them in a learning environment.

It was good to set the wheels in motion!!! At the conclusion of my visit I didnt leave Mel's office empty handed, she loaded me up with some new and exciting m-learning websites that she has come across. My favourite so far is:
http://www.downes.ca/cgi-bin/page.cgi?post=56

Check it out, i am sure it will confuse the hell out of many of you but it is very amusing! :)

Our M-learning knowledge is increasing everyday thanks to Mel and Marcus!!!

Edna group approved

Hey team,
Just letting you know that i have applied for an edna group and have one now to play with as of 10 May 2007 (as per one of our aims). I wanted the group so i can communicate information with my trainees, such as posting documents and comments, using forums etc. Similar to the one Collette started for her TAA group. Though I am particularly interested in using the 'chat function' as these days this is a major communication method for the x generation!

I now need to edit it to make it look appealing to my 'younger' target group and think of a suitable name. Any ideas?

I'll show you all when i've finished editing. I would really like to trial this asap so once its 'pretty' enough for me i'll need to get my trainees involved :)

Good luck to me

Thanks all

Yva :)

Pre-Learnscope survey 2007

Hi guys,

this is the pre-survey that we all need to fill out before we go any further with our learnscope project.

Do not panic if you cant answer the questions, that is the point of the survey, to find out what you dont know.

At the end of the project we will do the survey again and by that time we should be able to answer every question.

Thanks

Yva

Blogging along

Finally the Chamber has set up their Blog!!
Katharina was kind enough to come over today and show us the ins and out of blogs and refresh our memory on features of the wiki's and frappers.

We can now keep you all update on our progress and inform you of any exciting information we might come across in our M & E -learning journey.
The journey will be long one but we are determined to take it one day at a time and just keep blogging along.
